OUR HISTORY
Great-great-grandmother
genoveva
Our great-great-grandmother, Genoveva Antunes Duarte, brought this house into the family in 1837… thanks to a glass of water! Genoveva turned this house into a gathering place for friends and family.
Here, get-togethers were held, poetry was read, theatrical works were improvised. There were embroidery and sweets competitions, painting sessions, experimentation with photography, and above all, a lot of talk about books…
It was a very lively house.

THE REHABILITATION
In the late 1980s, faced with the ruin of the house and grounds, Maria Manuela, Genoveva’s great-granddaughter, realized that the setting of her family memories was in danger.
With her husband, José Gomes da Costa, and with great courage, they began to rehabilitate buildings and gardens. In 1993, José and Maria Manuela opened Casa da Avó Genoveva as a Rural Tourism House.
Our parents then began to combine their lives as Philosophy teachers with hosting guests, returning our home to its tradition of hospitality.

We combine tradition and modernity to offer quality tourism.
